- Natural Gas Distribution: The cornerstone of its offerings involves the distribution of natural gas to roughly 3.3 million customers. This extensive operation is supported by approximately 55,000 miles of distribution main pipeline alongside the requisite individual customer service lines, ensuring reliable gas distribution across northern Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kentucky, and Maryland. In alignment with these operations, NiSource also manages around 1,000 miles of transmission main pipeline, emphasizing its substantial role in facilitating energy supply and logistics.
- Electricity Generation, Transmission, and Distribution: NiSource takes pride in serving around 0.5 million electricity consumers located primarily in the northern regions of Indiana. Its broad footprint in the electricity market is augmented by owning and operating diverse power generation assets. These include coal-fired electric generating stations in Wheatfield and Michigan City, combined cycle gas turbine operations in West Terre Haute, natural gas generating units in Wheatfield, as well as hydro generating plants in Carroll and White Counties. Not stopping at traditional energy sources, NiSource also has invested in renewable energy through wind generating units in White County and solar generating units in Jasper County and White County, Indiana. Additionally, the company actively engages in wholesale electric and transmission transactions, further broadening its influence and operational scope within the energy sector.
