Acacia Research: Too Cheap To Ignore, But Tread Carefully Ahead Of Earnings
Acacia Research surged after Q1 2025 earnings but could make a big move in either direction after this week's Q2 2025 earnings release. Irrespective of near-term price direction after earnings, it remains best to stick with a long-term view on ACTG stock. The company's underlying value is around 82% above the stock's current trading price, and the list of possible catalysts to unlock this value keeps growing.
Acacia Research: More Volatile Than Expected, But Still A Buy
Acacia Research experienced heavy turbulence during last month's broad market sell-off, but has bounced back in a big way as of late. A big reason for this has been the recently released quarterly results, which included better-than-expected revenue and earnings due to this holding company's latest IP licensing windfall. Based on a sum-of-the-parts calculation, ACTG continues to trade at a heavy discount to the company's underlying value.

It makes sense why investors continue to sleep on Acacia Research, but ACTG's short-term performance belies its long-term potential. Acacia Research: Stepping Up Its Pace Of Acquisitions
For quite a while before its recapitalization was completed in July 2023, Acacia did not announce engagement in any new investments. Since completion of the recapitalization, however, Acacia closed three investments: two in the oil & gas field and recently in the consumer, road safety, and air distribution spaces. In the last year, ACTG accelerated the pace at which it puts its large cash stack to work.
Acacia Research: What To Make Of The Latest Acquisition Announcement
Acacia Research (ACTG), a holding company controlled by investment firm Starboard Value, continues to trade at a discount to its underlying value. However, a recent acquisition announcement could mark the start of a change in approach that helps to bridge this valuation gap, and perhaps drive the next big run-up for shares. Even if Starboard Value's game plan for ACTG stock doesn't entail turning this holding company into a growth-focused industrial conglomerate, from a risk/return standpoint shares remain worthy of a buy.
Acacia Research: Recent Oil And Gas Assets Acquisition Bearing Fruit, Discount To Book Value Still High
Book value per share is growing, but the discount to book value remains high. The cash position as of June 30, 2024, is still very strong and constitutes ~85% of the company's market cap. Recent acquisition of oil & gas assets started bearing fruit.
