Panmure Liberum has downgraded Card Factory (LSE:CARD) to 'hold' after what it calls a shock profit warning that has damaged confidence in the near-term outlook. The broker has cut its price target to 80p from 150p.
Card Factory (LSE:CARD) said pressures on UK consumers have affected confidence and shopping behaviour in the past few weeks. The company said these conditions have led to soft high street footfall and that UK store sales are running below earlier expectations as it enters its most important trading period.
Shares in Card Factory (LSE:CARD) fell 5% in early trading after the retailer of greeting cards and gifts reported a drop in half-year profits, even as it stuck to its full-year guidance. The group posted a 6% rise in revenue to £248 million for the six months to the end of July, driven by new store openings, resilient like-for-like sales growth of 1.5% and strong seasonal trading around Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.
