Investors typically diversify global portfolios with broad international ETFs. But recent market volatility has caused investors to look more closely at various international opportunities.
While U.S. investors may be disappointed with this year's choppy first-quarter performance, European investors celebrate double-digit broad index returns. The Euro Stoxx 50 Index is Europe's blue-chip index covering 50 stocks from 11 Eurozone countries.
Bull vs. Bear is a weekly feature where the VettaFi writers' room takes opposite sides for a debate on controversial stocks, strategies, or market ideas — with plenty of discussion of ETF ideas to play either angle. For this edition of Bull vs.

NASDAQ (NMS) Exchange | US Country |
The fund is primarily focused on investing in the securities of the top-performing and most actively traded companies in the German equities market, colloquially referred to as blue-chip companies. To achieve this, it allocates at least 80% of its total assets towards securities that are a part of the underlying index which tracks these leading corporations. Additionally, the fund incorporates investments in American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) and Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs) that are based on the securities in the underlying index, providing a broader spectrum of investment opportunities. It is important to note that the fund operates with a non-diversified investment strategy, focusing its assets more heavily on fewer securities which it identifies as having the strongest potential.
The core of the fund's investment strategy focuses on the securities that make up the underlying index which tracks Germany's largest and most actively traded companies, or blue chips. This method aims to ensure that the fund's investments are positioned within the top echelon of the German equity market, representing established, high-performing companies.
As part of its diversified approach, the fund invests in ADRs which are negotiable securities representing the ownership of shares in a non-US company, in this case, German companies listed in the underlying index. ADRs allow the fund to gain exposure to foreign equities with the convenience of trading in US dollars, providing an efficient way to invest internationally.
Similar to ADRs, GDRs are a type of bank certificate that represents shares in a foreign company, offering an alternative method for the fund to invest in the German equity market. GDRs can be traded globally, allowing the fund enhanced flexibility and access to foreign investments beyond the US market. This is particularly beneficial for diversifying the investment portfolio and tapping into international growth opportunities.
