Grayscale Bitcoin Cash Trust is now trading at less than a 6% premium to NAV, down from a 43% premium in January. Historically, I've advised buying Bitcoin Cash directly rather than paying high premiums for BCHG. Though we're now 12 months from the start of private placements, BCHG lockup expiration is far from over. I suspect we could even see a return to NAV discount.
I previously called BCHG overvalued, but it has outperformed BCH and the S&P since then, despite my incorrect predictions. BCHG's NAV premium remains high at over 100%, making it akin to paying $2 for $1, which I find unjustified. Grayscale's private placements have increased BCHG shares by 23% YTD, with restricted shares unlocking in February 2025, potentially normalizing the premium.

Grayscale Bitcoin Cash Trust is a financial entity that operates primarily in the cryptocurrency sector, specifically focused on Bitcoin Cash. Established on January 26, 2018, and based in Stamford, CT, this company provides an innovative investment vehicle for individuals and institutional investors looking to gain exposure to Bitcoin Cash without the complexities and security concerns associated with directly purchasing, storing, and managing the digital assets themselves. The Trust's main goal is to simplify the process of investing in Bitcoin Cash, thereby opening the cryptocurrency market to a wider range of investors by offering them a traditional investment product - a security that represents their investment in Bitcoin Cash.
Grayscale Bitcoin Cash Trust holds Bitcoin Cash on behalf of its investors and provides them with the necessary mechanisms to have their holdings delivered. This service alleviates the need for investors to deal with the technicalities of digital wallet management, private key storage, and the security concerns associated with cryptocurrency investments.
The firm's principal service is offering investors the opportunity to gain exposure to Bitcoin Cash through a security. This approach eliminates the hurdles inherent in purchasing, storing, and safekeeping Bitcoin Cash directly. It enables investors to add Bitcoin Cash to their investment portfolios through a more familiar and regulated format, akin to buying stocks or bonds, thus broadening the accessibility of Bitcoin Cash to include those less versed in the intricacies of cryptocurrencies.
