Raiffeisen Bank International: Still Cheap As Earnings Set To Normalize

Raiffeisen Bank International: Still Cheap As Earnings Set To Normalize

Despite last month's tariff jitters, shares of Raiffeisen Bank International have been a strong performer so far this year, returning nearly 40% in dollar terms. The bank's first quarter results look modest at first blush, albeit some seasonal effects and the ongoing provisioning for Polish FX mortgage litigation depressed its profitability. The latter should taper off in the coming quarters, powering decent earnings growth in 2026. Despite this, the shares continue to trade for a single-digit multiple of current earnings.

Raiffeisen Bank International: Still Trading For Less Than 6x Core Earnings

Shares of Austrian bank Raiffeisen have been a strong performer recently, driven higher by a combination of resilient core earnings and a possible end to the war in Ukraine. Provisions related to legacy Polish foreign currency mortgages came in much worse than expected at the start of last year, weighing on reported 2024 earnings. This issue will hopefully begin to fade this year, narrowing the gap between reported and core results.

Raiffeisen Bank International: Still A Buy, Although Russian Assets Should Be Considered Worthless

A Russian court order now prevents Raiffeisen Bank International from selling its Russian subsidiary. As per H1 2024, 30% of assets and 49% of earnings were in Russia. Unless other developments occur, the bank should be valued based only on its remaining assets in Austria and Central and Eastern Europe.
