The iShares MSCI Kokusai ETF is a global-developed market ETF which includes U.S. equities but excludes Japan. While Japan's market was exceedingly volatile in prior decades, I no longer see much reason to focus on Japanese weighting within a global equities fund. This ETF has outperformed many other international funds, but I believe that's more because it doesn't own emerging markets.

The described company operates as an investment fund that primarily focuses on securities of companies located in developed economies, excluding Japan. This specificity in investment strategy is guided by adherence to an underlying index, which is meticulously designed to gauge the performance of equity markets within these selected regions. The index, governed by MSCI Inc., acts as a crucial framework for the fund's investment choices, ensuring that the fund continuously aims to mirror the economic characteristics of the chosen market segment. By committing at least 80% of its assets to either direct component securities of the index or investments closely resembling these components, the fund maintains a focused and disciplined approach to investment in developed economies outside Japan.
The fund invests a substantial portion of its assets directly into the component securities of its guiding index. This approach forms the backbone of the fund’s investment strategy, ensuring a high degree of alignment with the performance of equity markets in developed economies, excluding Japan. By selecting securities that are representative components of the index, the fund seeks to leverage the overall market movement and gain exposure to a diversified portfolio of stocks that symbolize the economic vitality of these regions.
In addition to direct investment in the index's component securities, the fund extends its reach by investing in financial instruments that possess economic characteristics virtually identical to those of the index constituents. This nuanced approach allows the fund to explore a broader spectrum of investment opportunities while maintaining its strategic focus. Such investments may include derivative instruments or other financial products that parallel the performance of the index components, thus offering an alternative pathway to achieving the fund's investment objectives without straying from its core mandate.
