Boeing has announced its major project deliveries for its commercial and defense segments in the third quarter of 2024. The company delivered a total of 116 aircraft during this period, comprising 92 units of the 737, 14 units of the 787, and 6 units of the 767.
Boeing said on Tuesday it delivered 33 jets in September, down from 40 plane deliveries in August, as a strike mid-month by around 33,000 U.S. West Coast factory workers weighs on output.
Boeing's deliveries are down year over year through September. The company handed over 27 of its bestselling 737 Max aircraft last month.
Boeing's defense contract value surged to $34 billion, nearly doubling year-over-year, driven by aircraft and bomb programs despite challenges in other areas. Excluding indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contracts, BA's contract value still increased by 40% year-over-year, highlighting strong demand for profitable legacy programs. Boeing's defense segment faces profitability issues due to fixed-price contracts on next-generation programs, resulting in significant losses and margin fluctuations.
Shares in Senior PLC (LSE:SNR) crashed 16% after the engineer warned on profits due to challenges in the aerospace market from troubles at Boeing, resulting in slower growth in the third quarter. The FTSE 250-listed aerospace, defence and power systems engineer said it expects a lower performance (meaning profit) from its aerospace division in the second half than the first.
