State Street® US Sector Rotation ETF is an actively managed ETF utilizing a proprietary model to rotate between sectors of the S&P 500. The lion's share of its net assets is allocated to ETFs, but it holds common stocks too. Despite its promising strategy, XLSR has significantly underperformed IVV since inception. Risk-adjusted returns over May 2019–December 2025 were not appealing either.

This fund operates as a "fund of funds," primarily channeling its resources into securities across various exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Its investment strategy is uniquely oriented towards allocating assets among ETFs that are focused on the common stocks of companies belonging to specific sectors of the S&P 500® Index, as classified by the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®). The fund commits to investing at least 80% of its net assets—plus any borrowings for investment purposes—either directly or indirectly through the underlying ETFs, specifically in securities of U.S. companies. This approach allows for a diversified investment portfolio that taps into the potential of various sectors of the American economy, providing investors with a comprehensive exposure to the U.S. market.
Sector-Focused ETF Investments: The fund's primary offering involves investing in ETFs that target common stocks within individual sectors of the S&P 500® Index. This strategy leverages the classification provided by the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®), ensuring a focused yet diversified investment approach. By allocating assets across different sector-based ETFs, the fund aims to capture the growth and potential across a broad spectrum of the U.S. economy.
Indirect Investment in U.S. Companies: Through its investment in sector-focused ETFs, the fund indirectly invests in the securities of U.S. companies. This method offers investors an opportunity to gain exposure to the American market without directly investing in individual company stocks. The fund's commitment to investing at least 80% of its net assets in securities of U.S. companies, either directly or through ETFs, underscores its focus on leveraging the performance of the U.S. market.
