I have a Buy rating awarded to Zhihu, as the stock is inexpensive with potential catalysts. The continued narrowing of losses and the growing popularity of the new AI search add-on Zhida can act as valuation re-rating drivers. ZH is currently trading at less than 1 times forward revenue, which is way below its all-time historical P/S average of 2.6x.

Zhihu: Heading In The Right Direction
FY2024 is likely to end with the fourth consecutive annual loss, but the trend is favorable with smaller and smaller losses. ZH is close to breaking even, and profits do not look to be far away as a result of various measures taken by ZH. There are risks hanging over ZH, but its market cap may still be too low, especially if ZH becomes profitable.

Zhihu Sees Wider Losses Despite Revenue Beat
ZH's Q1 sales accounted for over a quarter of the full-year consensus revenue estimate, and its first quarter top-line beat is attributable to the vocational training business' good performance. But Zhihu's normalized net loss widened on both QoQ and YoY terms in Q1 2024, and a negative revenue mix might continue to weigh on its future bottom-line performance. The company's latest first quarter results have mixed read-throughs, so I have decided to maintain my Hold rating for ZH.
