Mueller Industries, Inc. has delivered strong growth via acquisitions and price increases, but current valuation limits market-beating upside. MLI's management targets significant operating income growth to $1.5B by 2030, leveraging organic expansion, vertical integration, and $1.41B net cash. Despite robust financials and sector tailwinds, MLI's projected annualized returns (5.7%-8.5%) lag typical S&P 500 averages.
Mueller Industries, which is in the business of supplying various copper, brass and aluminum products mainly for the construction markets has been underperforming its industrial peers on a YTD basis. MLI still benefits from leading market positions, consistent gross margins, a debt-free balance sheet, and record $1.4B cash, supporting both acquisitions and shareholder returns. MLI is priced at similar Fwd. P/E multiples as my last coverage, but this time round it is staring at solid forward positive earnings growth, and is cheaper than otherpeers.
Mueller Industries delivered strong Q1 results, with net sales up 19% year-over-year and notable margin expansion. MLI's operating margin improvement was partly boosted by a one-time $41.4M gain; underlying margin gains remain solid but less dramatic. The company maintains a fortress balance sheet with $1.38B cash, no long-term debt, and ongoing share buybacks and dividend increases.
